Discusses the development of gay activism in Charlotte, NC, which came about directly as a result of the AIDS crisis. There was strong opposition to the use of public funding for anything that might be considered supportive of the gay lifestyle in Charlotte. The religious opposition was led by Joseph Chambers. Joseph Chambers had been a pastor with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). He withdrew in 1992 to become an independent, then founded the Bible Holiness Ministerial Fellowship.
